Emotional Life Skills Coaching

Our 1:1 coaching provides personalized, non-clinical support to help individuals build confidence, emotional wellness, daily living skills, routines, communication strategies, and independence. Sessions are tailored to the person's interests, learning style, and goals, offering a safe and supportive space to practice new skills and navigate challenges.

Coaching may include:

  • Emotional wellness and coping strategies

  • Daily living and routine building

  • Communication and social skills

  • Community participation

  • Problem-solving and decision-making

  • Self-advocacy and confidence building

Coaching takes place in the home, community, or virtually.

Our Approach

Our work is guided by principles that place the individual at the centre of care. We strive to ensure that all services—clinical and non-clinical—are delivered with clarity, respect, and integrity.

Our approach is:

  • Person-centred

  • Trauma-informed

  • Strengths-based

  • Flexible and responsive

  • Grounded in dignity and respect

We meet people where they are—at home, in community settings, or virtually—and support them in developing the skills, insight, and strategies that matter most to them.

Depending on the service accessed, our work may focus on:

  • Emotional wellness, insight, and therapeutic support

  • Daily living skills and independence

  • Emotional regulation and coping strategies

  • Communication and self-advocacy

  • Community participation and belonging

  • Stability, confidence, and meaningful connection

We work in partnership with individuals, families, caregivers, and—where appropriate—other professionals to create coordinated, consistent support that feels safe, respectful, and empowering.

Hope Start operates through a distributed care model.

  • All services are provided by independent subcontractors who bring a diversity of experience, training, and lived perspective to the work.

  • Every case is overseen by both our Clinical Director, Marsaye Treen, as well as our Service Director, Matthew Wadlin, who support service planning, onboarding, communication with families, and coordination between supports.

This model ensures:

  • Personalized frontline support

  • Consistent communication

  • Clear oversight and continuity

  • Flexibility for families

While our team practice independently, they are part of a collaborative structure that ensures safety, accountability, and shared values.
